The First Battle of Osgiliath was the first battle that took place in the ruined city of Osgiliath during the War of the Ring. When the war was declared by Sauron, Minas Morgul launched an assault on Osgiliath. The enemy managed to outnumber the Gondorian troops and conquered large part of Osgiliath, but Boromir and Faramir arrived with reinforcecements and turned the tide of the battle, Gothmog and the survivors soon retreated.
