Finduilas of Dol Amroth was a daughter of Prince Adrahil II of Dol Amroth and sister to Prince Imrahil and Princess Ivriniel. In T.A. 2976, at an age of 26 (still very young by Dúnedain standards), she wed twenty-years-older Denethor II, then heir to Ecthelion II, Steward of Gondor. She was regarded as very beautiful and gentle-hearted, and was often compared to an elf-maiden, rather than one of the mortal women. She gave birth to two sons, 2978 to Boromir and five years later to Faramir, after whose birth she grew weak and sickly. As Faramir was ignored by his father, and she did her best to raise him on her own, and soon could count of the assistance of the Wizard Gandalf who taught young Faramir much of his wisdom, for which his father and older brother used to mock the boy as a Wizard´s apprentice. Five years later, Finduilas' health had declined severely and she continued to miss the sea and finally died at an age considered short for a Lady of high Dúnadan heritage. Her husband never remarried and fell into a state of dark-mindedness, cynicism, and depression, while their sons were raised by servants and soldiers of Minas Tirith
