Fimran was from a respected mannish family of Dunman descend that lived just west of the Greenway, about half way between Brill and Fornost in about T.A. 1700.One day His brother Vagibreg and sister Drualphien left home and headed south to Brill. Ostensibly, they were heading for Tharbad, but they never made it. Drualphien returned home wounded two weeks after their departure and related a story of an ordeal among the Barrow-downs. While traveling south from Brill one evening, she, Vagibreg, and a Halfling named Kerry of Ashhall were waylaid by bandits and chased into the downs. There they were beset upon by a great wight; Kerry was killed and Vagibreg carried off. She escaped. Fimran came to Brill and stayed with his cousin Amthol, a well-known ranger. Both were hoping to retrieve the poor Vagibreg and avenge the wrongs done to their family. They were quietly offering a bounty of sixteen goldpennies to anyone slaying a wight, and would pay anyone accompanying them into the barrows ten silverpennies per day plus a share of any loot recovered.

Like his brother Drualphien he had a magic Ring of Marking which made invisible marks on trees which the wearer of either ring could plainly see. Both rings were keyed to each other
