Agashadag
Neldoreth

The primal forest northeast of Rhûnaer: The presence of the Silvan Avari beneath the ancient canopy of the Eryn Rhûn (S. "East Forest"; Fo. "Agasha Dag") or Neldoreth (S. "Forest [of] Beeches"; N. "Nelornieth") had lent the high forest with a secretive and fairy nature. Many were the magical glades and enchanted pools and streams that went their bubbling way towards the distant sea. The Vol Kug (Ul. "River [of] Mists") bisected the forest.

Notes[]

Original name in MERP: Taur Rómen. "Taur Rómen" is actually a mixed Sindarin-Quenya name and therefore much more unlikely as a term that the elves used for their home themselves. Other maps give the name as Eryn Rhûn which would suit as the Sindarin form that Gondorians would have used, and might have been in use among the Silvan Elves of the region under the influence of Sindarin immigrants like Thranduil's family. Agasha Dag is thought to be the common Folyavulthig form most known to the local Dorwinrim and Easterlings. Tolkien's oldest sketches of the northwestlands imply that he thought to name this forest Neldoreth. The eastern Silvan equivalent to Doriathrin Neldoreth could have been "Nelornieth" or "Delorneth".
