Harding was a young man of Rohan.Born the son of Hearga and Léofwyn of Eastremed he fought against the Orcs of the White Hand who ransacked his village during the War of the Ring and had his betrothed Folawyn kidnapped. On his own he pursued the Orc troop hoping to free Folawyn, leaving his mother and the other villagefolk in doubt of his whereabouts or if he was still alive.
