The Embalmers' Guild were the preservers of the dead among the Númenóreans and their Dúnedain and Black Númenórean descendants.
They were known as the Agânzîrim ("Friends of Death") among the Black Númenoreans and Badhrondili ("Friends of Námo") or Aerdain-daenen ("The Brethren of Silence") among the men of Arnor and Gondor.
The custom of embalming had also spread among some tribes of the Haradrim, where the Embalmers were known as Azhayi, notably the Umbareans, Tandi, Kharadûni, Anbalukkhôri, Bellakarani, Tantûraki, and Gimilthâni.
