Elrohir (S."Star-rider) was one of the twin sons of Elrond and Celebrian (the other being Elladan). Like his brother, he swore vengeance against all Orcs when Celebrian was captured and held. The brothers succeeded in rescuing their mother, but never forgot her suffering. They hunted Orcs relentlessly thenceforth. Elladan and Elrohir demonstrated their thoroughly heroic and wise characters often in the War of the Ring. They rode from the north with the Dunedain to aid Aragorn; they accompanied him through the Paths of the Dead, and fought their way to Pelargir. They sailed from there with the host of Lebennin and Langstrand and arrived at a critical time during the Battle of the Pelennor Fields. In addition to these exploits, both were part of the councils of the Lords of the West—indeed, held the respect of these mighty individuals. The brothers were Half-elves and so had the same choice presented to Elros and Elrond: human life and mortality, or Elvish life with immortality. They decided to remain with the Dunedain into the Fourth Age after Elrond departed over the sea, thus choosing immmortality in contrast to their sister Arwen.
