The eighteenth Ruling Steward of Gondor, Egalmoth (S."sharp helm-flower" or "Broad-shoulder") was the son of Ecthelion I and the father of Beren of Gondor. During his reign (T.A. 2698-2743), Déor the Wild the King of Rohan requested aid in dislodging the Dunlending force that seized the Ring of Isengard in T.A. 2710, but the conservative Steward refused to risk his already strained resources.
