Zwergin

Notes[]

J. R. R. Tolkien gave contradicting statements on dwarf women, in one comment he stated that whenever dwarf women left their sheltered homes they dressed like men and were not to distinguish in any way from male dwarves in another he stated that all Naugrim had beards from birth on including females, he also stated that female dwarves never went on war and only in despetate situations ever left their homes. In a third comment he stated that all Male Dwarves had beards, seemingly relativizing the former statement and maybe even indicating that female dwarves had no beards, or at last not all of them.

In the Hobbit movie trilogy and the lord of the rings:The rings of Power television series female dwarves are depicted as having vestigial beard growth,as some of them have sideburns or hairy cheecks, but not all wearing full beards. These dwarfwomen however are also seen as leaving their homes and walking undisguided among men.

The Lord of the Rings Online also depicts female dwarves as fully bearded, but these dwarf-women are also presented as fighters and they are dressed the same way as males when leaving their homes. The Dwarf race has no male or female option as playable chraracter indicating that both sexes are indeed undistinguishable to the outsider. LOTRO also has two dwarves, seemingly females, who are shown as a married couple.

In Middle-earth Role Playing females are depicted as leaving their homes and even as being occasionally quite adventurous, but these disguise themselves by wearing facemasks, headscarfs and veils, so it remains unknown if they do have beards as they do not reveal their faces to outsiders.
