Dor-na-Daerachas (S. "Land of Great Dread", Q. Nórë Anmóre or Dor i Anhuinë), also known as Dor Daedeloth (S. "Land of the Shadow of Horror") was a dark and perilous region of Beleriand, located around the fortress of Angband and stretching on both sides of the Iron Mountains (Ered Engrin). It lay bordered to the west by the Ered Wethrin, to the east by the Ered Luin, and to the south by Dorthonion, the Pass of Sirion, and the March of Maedhros.
This vast land was divided by the unscalable Ered Engrin, with the southern part known as Ard-galen, a grassy plain that would eventually transform into the barren desert of Anfauglith after the Dagor Bragollach. The northern portion was a cold, desolate land, sometimes referred to as the Region of Everlasting Cold. Dor-na-Daerachas was the heart of Morgoth's realm, teeming with his creatures, including Orcs and other dark beasts. The region became a stronghold of Angband and Thangorodrim, and after the Dagor-nuin-Giliath, it became a critical battleground between the forces of Morgoth and the Ñoldor. Following Fëanor's death and the failure of their siege, the Ñoldor encircled the region, beginning the Siege of Angband, which would last until the Dagor Bragollach, when Morgoth's forces broke through. After the War of Wrath, Dor-na-Daerachas, like much of Beleriand, was destroyed in the cataclysmic events that marked the end of the First Age.
