The Door of Timeless Night also called the Door of Night (Q."Ando Lómen", "Moritarnon", Gol."Tarn fui",Doors of Night and maybe the Gates of Dread is a dragonheaded, gigantic, magical portal piering through the western walls and the Walls of the world.Located on the westernmost shore in the midst of Valinor,at the uttermost rim of the world it lead to the Oceans of heaven into the Outer Darkness and the timeless Void.
Tales of its origins differ.In the earliest tales it was made by the Valar for the Sun-ship to journey through the Outer Dark and return through the Gates of Morn, though Arien had to speak the magic words for the gates to open.Sometimes tiny Star-ships of Varda were said to follow her Galleon. Athough Tuor Eladar was said to have sailed the firmament the Moon was said to not follow her but pass beneath the roots of the Earth and indeed according to the earliest teales both Ships passed beneath the world dragged on the magic ropes of Danuin, Fanuin and Ranuin by servants of
Ulmo.
Later variants however state the Door of night had been established far later, after Morgoth had been overcome at the end of the War of Wrath to create an opening into the Outer Void for his banishment.
