Dissa (S. "Young woman") was a Dwarf princess of Khazad-dûm who lived towards the end of the Second Age. She was the wife of Durin IV, and they wed when he was still a prince.

History[]

Dissa was the daughter of a family of Blacklocks from southern Middle-earth who had come to Khazad-dum to work as prospectors. One day the young Prince Durin came to visit their camps for routine inspection and thereafter often repeated to visit Dissa's family, the Prince however told a different story according to which Dissa had been in love with him on first sight.

In a time when the Dwarves had mostly isolated themselves from the rest of the world, Dissa remained an embodiment of the goodwill of her people. She was noted to have received Elrond warmly during his visit to Khazad-dûm, despite the initial reservations of her husband.

Notes[]

This character is from an upcoming adaptation, and few details have been released. This is subject to many changes.

Original form: Disa = Dhéhséh = Dissa

Disa is an old swedish name and highly unlikely the contemporary name of a Second Age dwarf.A reconstructed modified proto-indo-european form of the name could be "Dhéhséh" but more likely a Sindarin name meaning "bride, young woman" might be intended as "Dissa", an obsolete old Noldorin form.Disa could be interpreted as the same form in an unknown Eregion-dialect of Sindarin, which would have been known to the Dwarves of Khazad-Dûm and likely used as an "outer speech".
