Dírhael was a Ranger of the North and descendant of Aranarth, the first Chieftain of the Dúnedain (T.A. 1974-2106). His wife was Ivorwen, and Gilraen the Fair was his eldest daughter. Although Dirhael opposed his daughter's betrothel to Arathorn son of Arador, Gilraen married the future Chieftain and later bore him a son — Aragorn II.
