In TA 1640 the Chieftain of clan Corddwallon was Dinglas (Du."Grey Man"). He had been Chieftain for only 3 years but had a reputation as a cunning man who was prone to fits of anger. He was in constant contact with Maben, and considered his counsel over all others. In the 3 years of his rule, the clan had become even more war-like and drawn even closer in it's relations to the Temple of Justice.

Notes[]

The original Name is given as "Daonghlas" of Clan "Arailt".Daonghlas seems to be derived from gaelic Daon - "Man" and -glas "blue-green" or "Water", though more likely the gaelic name Dubhghlas was intended, Dubh meaning "dark, black" and glas, meaning "stream" or "grey". Arailt is the gaelic form of old norse Haraldr or anglo-saxon Herewald ("Host-Ruler").

A possible middle welsh form could be Duglas, Dynglas or Dinglas while Arailt would correspond with middle welsh Corddwall or Corddwallon.
