The Dark Mountains (Av."Rôndûli"; Ad."Urîd Dolgî") were enigmatic and unexplored mountain chains in the Eastern Lands of Middle-Earth. It was said Morgoth once fortified these mountains but also at last two of the Eastern Houses of the Khazad awoke beneath their northern peaks.

The Dark mountains could be the unnamed mountain chain between the Iron Hills and the Orocarni or ,according to the changed geography of "The Nature of Middle-Earth", the mountain chain east of the Orocarni and Cuivienen.The first would probably be equivalent of the Barl Syrnac and Spine of Arda, the latter could be the "Red Mountains", "Grey Mountains", Mountain Wall and Wind Mountains of MERP, given that these can not be identified any longer as the Orocarni and Mountains of the wind (first Age) of the earlier legendarium.
