Curuvar (or Curunír) was a High-Elven term for "Wizard". The female equivalent, the "white Witch", was called Curuni.
Curuvar and Curuni originally meant "Person of Cunning", but later they came to be used as rather derogative, even deprecatory words, as the more positives would be "Sairon", "Ingolmo" or "Istar" usually translated as Wizard, Wise, Loremaster or Sage.
Umanyar[]
The Wizards and Witches of the Umanyar, the Sindar and Nandor, were called Curugrim (or "Cyryg") and Cyrys.
Notes[]
Curuvar and Curuni are old Quenya forms, likely outdated and should if possible be replaced by reconstructed Neo-Quenya forms.
Speculations[]
The Weather-masters and Lightbearers were most likely specialized orders among the Elvish magicians.
