The Cult of the Dark Overlord was the principal "Irdorian" dark religion in the Utter South. Though its adherents revered the dark and its lord, it did not follow the usual Sauronic pattern of bringing all peoples under his direct banner. The cult was founded in the late 13th century of the Third Age to serve as a rallying point for believers of the Dark. It remained firmly controlled by the Court of Aranórë. Caurësaur served as the undisputed High Priest of this organization and oversaw its operations. While not without influence, the Cult maintained a low profile in the Seven lands. Its main sanctuary, the Cave of Clouds, was located beneath an old burial mound north of Tiur Cili. Four arch-Dushloki commanded only a handful of lesser followers, among whom were several politically powerful Sedêre-nobles. The Cult's symbol was a black serpentine circle.
