The Cult of the Dark Noble was an epithet applied to a belief system founded by Adûnabêth, who later became The Seventh of the Nazgûl.
Adûnabêth exploited ancient superstitions among the coastal peoples of Middle-earth, who had mistaken early Númenórean seafarers for "gods from the waves". He established a charismatic cult of personality among the tribes of Near Harad. Vamag became an early center of this cult, but it gradually merged with Haradrian native beliefs and eventually became indistinguishable from the cult of the Dark Lady. Both Adûnabêth and the Dark Lady were addressed by the title "Ârd the Vain".
