A wealthy man who liked to take risks with his money, Coelmath of Dunfearn hoped to sponsor a group of adventurers who were willing to explore the Under-deeps. Everyone knew that there was a Riddle Cave in the nearby flank of the mountains, but most forgot that the cave led to the vaster caverns and crevices beneath the entire range. Coelmath hadn't forgotten. He wanted one-fourth of all treasure taken from the Under-deeps, in return for his sponsorship, including 12 silverpennies, food, means of travel, and knowledge concerning the mystery of the Riddle Caves. He knew that there was a huge arrow that pointed in the direction of the path, but he couldn't figure it out. Not a very personable man, Coelmath had a technique of shunning most inquisitors, believing that those who really had the guts to accept his offer would badger him for his sponsorship. He wa tall and thin, and dressed in bright colors. His touseled light blond hair and friendly blue eyes did not match his personality. He was not afraid to use sarcasm.
Notes[]
Original form: Calmuad = Coelmath.
The Name Calmuad seems not to be derived from Welsh or Gaelic, if not a relation to old irish call, "loss", and muad, "good, noble", should be suggested (less likely seems scottish cál, "cabbage").It should perhaps be taken as an "untranslated" form.
