The Trolls, monstrous creatures wrought by dark sorcery of Morgoth, to mimic the Ents in mockery of Yavanna's design, were brutal and dim-witted beings bred for destruction and terror. Shunning the sunlight, which turned them to stone, they served the forces of evil as living engines of war, feared for their immense strength and savage ferocity.
