
Throughout the history of Middle-earth, books and written lore were the vessels of knowledge, preserving the wisdom of the Elves, Dwarves, Men, and even Hobbits. Though much of the ancient world relied on oral tradition, the greatest civilizations maintained vast libraries, scroll-houses, and archives where records of history, prophecy, lineage, and craft were stored.
