Bronwyn (Dn. "steadfast woman") was a healer from Tirharad, in Núrn. She appears to have been from a group more culturally of Donaen descent, though likely with mixed heritage from those of House Sulam descent.
Bronwyn was the single mother of Tîo. She loved a Silvan elf named Arondir.
History[]
A healer originally from Hordern, Bronwyn moved to Tirharad, and later bore a child named Tîo with a man who later abandoned the family. She then fell in love with Arondir, an Elf who had been stationed in the Watchtower of Ostirith under the Watchwarden, Revion, for many decades. She often met with Arondir in a tavern, and was maligned by the villagers for her suspected feelings, even though she attempted to keep them secret.
Though Arondir was to leave when the Elven outpost was decommissioned, Bronwyn and Arondir went to investigate Hordern after strange corruption was reported in a cow she was assigned to heal. When they arrived at the destroyed house of Cairan and Hana, they realized that the bodies were missing, with the village utterly devastated. Returning to her house, Bronwyn had to battle an Orc that threatened the life of her son and herself. Though the Orc had the upper hand at first, Bronwyn managed to slay her opponent and brought its head to the tavern to show the danger it was bringing to the Southlands.
Bronwyn died from orcish poison on the arrow that wounded her. Though Bronwyn seemed on the mend, this poison actually proved to be fatal, killing her.
Notes[]
Bronwyn is often understood as being either a Welsh or an Anglo-Saxon name meaning "White breasted or White raven" and "Spring-joy" though it could well be an indigenous Pre-Númenórean form, possibly of a Halethian language related to Nandorin "Bronnwened".
Few details have been released about this character. She appears to be a pre-Númenórean woman of what would later be Mordor. Her name would not be inconsistent with that of the indigenous peoples of Daen-descent in MERP.
Although love between Men and Elves was exceedingly rare, the love between Arondir and Bronwyn can be taken as one of the "doomed" (fated) romances of non-nobility that had some great impact on both their peoples.
