Boots

Boots are a special kind of shoe. Low boots mainly cover the foot and the ankle; high boots may also cover some part of the lower calf or even extend up the leg, sometimes as far as the knee.

In Middle-earth, Dwarves wore heavy boots, sometimes pointed. Men also wore boots; the Rangers of the North and other travellers wore high boots. Elves preferred light shoes, but the High Elves sometimes wore pointed low boots known as Saipo. Orc-warriors wore heavy studded boots (Kapuk). Hobbits preferred to walk barefoot, but the Stoors of the The Marish sometimes wore bogshoes, and most Hobbits kept at least one pair of shoes or boots in case they traveled harsh terrain.
