Bog-toads were common amphibians native to parts of northwestern Eriador (Arthedain and northern Cardolan). These greenish and black-striped animals were usually considered harmless creatures, but the so-called "toad-stone", a wart oozing a foul tasting secretion, was sought by many rural healers, for they valued it a useful ingredient in many salves, especially against stings.
