Blood Wolves were one of the most dangerous species of wolves in Middle-earth. They had golden-brown pelts and were of a smaller size than the northern grey wolves, more like a mix of a smaller wild wolf and a jackal. They were adapted to the deserts, plains, and steppes, areas lacking abundant water. Despite their reputation for being aggressive, the blood wolves' diet consisted mostly of small prey.
