A Black Tunneler
The Black Tunnelers (Or. Murlagami) were enigmatic underground creatures native to Southernesse. Most likely a variety of Orc-kin or deep-Orcs, these dwellers of the Underdeeps lived on the Freck isles and Avaltirazar's Cliffs until they were eradicated by the Rock Geniuses. In TA 2492 they attacked Godspring and severely damaged its castle. In the late Third Age they allied themselves with Eisil the Red and attacked the Durgana-Dwarves, but were defeated one year later by an alliance of Men, Elves, and Dwarves near the Bloom Mountains.

- The Orcs, Ogres, and Trolls of Southernesse could be connected to the burrowing devils, Kinie Ger, Mokoi, Papinijuwari, Willauk, Yara-ma-yha-who or other goblins, cannibalistic giants, or devilish ogres from Australian aboriginal mythology.
