Bindbole Wood: This name applied to the forest that once stretched from the Pinnath Ceren all the way to the North Moors. Derived from one of the few Silvan names to survive from the Elder Days, it translated loosely into "Wood of New Songs" (N. Tôr Gwinelindas), suggesting an origin dating to the original Nandorin migration across Eriador. The central feature of the wood was known to locals as the Bindbole Rolls, a set of several rather low hills with a valley between, lying just north of the middle reach of The Water. Large limestone boulders seemed to block all the likely approaches to the hills, making them almost unreachable by loggers or hunters. Here lay, hidden, an Elvish circle and a Sîrrandrai community. The boulders strewn along the ravines and creek-bottoms were placed there by Giants a long age ago.

The Elves of the Bindbole Rolls, or Bindbole Wood, left the Shire sometime after the fall of Arthedain. A respectable village, Bindbole, lay on the northern edge of the Rolls, but the bulk of the forest was kept as a Shire preserve. It produced timber, nuts, and herbs for the Shire-folk, and Elves still visited it from time to time.

Name[]

Many sources give the name of this wood as Bindbale, but Bindbole is definitely the original spelling.[1]
