Also known as the Battle of Menegroth, this battle was fought by the Elves of Doriath and the Dwarves of Nogrod. The battle took place after the slaying of Elu Thingol. Two Dwarves returned to Nogrod and lied, stating that Thingol had killed the other Dwarves that combined the Silmaril with the Nauglamír. The Dwarves of Nogrod marched to war and asked Belegost to do the same. Under the leadership of King Bodruith, Belegost stayed out of the conflict and decided to remain neutral.
Mablung led the forces of Doriath against great odds, while most of the Green Elves abandoned Menegroth and sought refuge. Only the Sindar remained, and Mablung was killed, and the treasures of Doriath were pillaged.
