The Daggers of Westernesse at the feet of the Four Hobbits

Type

The Barrow-blades, also called Daggers of Númenor or Daggers of Westernesse, were several Arnorian Ekets discovered by Tom Bombadil in the barrow from which he rescued the four young Hobbits including Frodo Baggins. These blades were likely of Cardoladren make, and were possibly noble, military, or familial property buried with their owners in the Angmar Wars. Regardless of their possible origin, they served as the primary weapons of Samwise Gamgee, Peregrin Took, and Meriadoc Brandybuck during the War of the Ring, though Frodo’s would soon be broken by the Witch-king of Angmar and he would abandon it for Sting. Nonetheless, it was by one of these blades that the Witch-king was, in fact, slain, due to the combined deeds of Éowyn of Rohan and Meriadoc.

The four blades were obviously enchanted, having been forged for the Wars against Angmar, and held great powers against Wraiths, Orcs, and Trolls.
