Barney Butterbur was a man of Bree and owner of its well known inn, the Prancing Pony, which had been the property of his family for generations. He was the husband of Betsy Butterbur and the father of Barliman Butterbur.
Notes[]
- The name Barney possibly is a reference to Barnabas Butterbur, an early name of Barliman Butterbur, which was shortened to Barney in Tolkien's early drafts for The Fellowship of the Ring.
