Barkash was a person to whom the legendary Maiming Axe of Barkash had once belonged. The Axe was a known artifact in Rohan; most likely its original owner had been a Dwarf of Dunland or even Moria. His name also seems to incorporate the Khuzdul word bark, meaning "axe". It may be one of the few untranslated dwarven names known.

- The name might also be a misspelling of Brakash, or they may be two different persons. However in the game, the axe can only be used by Gimli, which makes a dwarf whose name incorporates the word for "axe" most likely.
