Captain of the Fuintirith, elite guards of Cromm Bráighe, Balandan (language and meaning unknown[1]) had formerly been a mercenary, when he was captured by Broccach and later entered his service. It was quickly apparent that this mysterious warrior’s skill at arms was superb, for he proved a mighty fighter and gained King Broccach’s trust by saving his life in an ambush. Broccach believed in Balandan’s loyalty and was amazed by the stranger’s grace in darkness and skill with magical symbols. While Balandan was a significant figure in the court at Cromm Bráighe and was known to pursue beautiful women with unyielding vigor, not even Korekalwen knew Balandan’s true feelings.

At 6’9”, Balandan was obviously part-Dúnadan; some said he came “from the South”, but Balandan discouraged such speculations.
