The Attathráin (N. Rhov. "Desire of the Fathers") was the great council of Esgaroth. Originally a meeting of the Elder Clan-fathers, later every free man of Esgaroth, and later also its allied villages such as Cotstow, were allowed to speak and vote in the Attathráin. The President of the Attathráin was the Master of Lake-town, who was elected by the Attathráin and served as the town's formal ruler and chief judge.
