Athaliah (Me. "Uthali" or V. "Oþlôligâha";"Strange Vine" or "Twisted Growth"?) was the female shadow-commander, who rose to prominence as a lieutenant of Morgoth during the Long Night and was sent by her master to assault the Moon-ship. Originally, she was a follower of Vairë's people. She was a powerful shadow spirit, preceding Thiringwethil as Courier of Angband. She fought valiantly with her fellow shadows, but in the end Tilion proved the victor and called upon Eru to exile her from Eä.
