Boromir: "Is it not a strange fate that we should suffer so much fear and doubt for so small a thing? So small a thing!" - J. R. R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring II:10 |

Araman (Q. "Outside Aman" or "Beside Aman") was the northernmost region of Aman, lying beyond the great mountain-fence of the Pelóri, between the borders of Valinor and the Grinding Ice of Helcaraxë. A desolate and frozen land, it stretched along the western shores of the Belegaer, facing the distant coasts of Beleriand. To the east, Araman was bordered by the Oiomúrë, a bleak and mist-laden region through which Melkor had once fled after his escape from Valinor.
Lore[]
Unlike the golden plains of Valinor, Araman was a land of barren rock and bitter cold, touched only faintly by the light of the Two Trees, and forever haunted by the freezing winds that swept down from the Helcaraxë. It was here that the Noldor, in their rebellion against the Valar, first heard the Doom of Mandos, and it was from these forsaken shores that Fëanor led his people into exile, setting forth toward Middle-earth, while Fingolfin and his kin, abandoned and betrayed, turned northward to cross the treacherous ice.
