Boromir: "Is it not a strange fate that we should suffer so much fear and doubt for so small a thing? So small a thing!"

Ansith (Ans.), also known as the Coastal-tongue, was a widespread pidgin language spoken along the southern coasts of Middle-earth, particularly in the regions of Far Harad and the Seven Lands. This lingua franca emerged during the late Second Age and early Third Age as a result of sustained trade, cultural exchange, and maritime interactions between the Númenórean settlers and the native populations of southern Middle-earth. It was often described as a mix of late Adûnaic and New Apysan.

Phonetic[]

Unlike the formal Adûnaic used by Númenórean elites, Ansith was a practical and simplified pidgin. It drew heavily from the vocabulary and phonetics of Adûnaic while incorporating elements of grammar and pronunciation from New Apysan. Over time, Ansith gained widespread adoption, particularly in coastal settlements, where it served as a unifying medium for diverse ethnic groups.
