The Amazônaic (Am.) or Amazônic language was the native tongue of the Amazôn-lâi, a warrior people of Amazôn, an island located in the southwestern Bay of Ormal. The Amazôn-lâi, also known as the People of Fate, were a unique culture of Far Harad that claimed distant Númenórean ancestry. Unlike many of the cultures of the Utter South that boasted Númenórean descent, the Amazôn-lâi retained a language strikingly close to late Adûnaic, the tongue of the Númenórean realm before the Akallabêth

Phonetics[]

The Amazôn-lâi, like many cultures of Far Harad and the Utter South, claimed Númenórean ancestry. However, unlike other Southron groups, their language remained strikingly close to Adûnaic, albeit with regional variations. The influence of Haradric tongues, particularly Apysaic and Dûnaya, introduced phonetic shifts and unique loanwords.

Amazônaic retained many grammatical structures from Adûnaic, such as:

  • Objective case mutation (e.g., Amazôn "island" vs. Amazûr "of the island")
  • Use of -th and -z endings for feminine nouns (e.g., Mazrôth "warrior-maid", Zamînaz "princess")
  • Preservation of archaic Adûnaic roots (e.g., Bârthani "Land of Lords", Zabathôr "Humbled King")
  • Phonetic shifts: Adûnaic ph became Amazônaic f, while kh softened to h (e.g., Pharazôn > Farazôn)
