Boromir: "Is it not a strange fate that we should suffer so much fear and doubt for so small a thing? So small a thing!"
- J. R. R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring II:10

An adventure site – sometimes called a "scenario" (not to be confused with Scenarios) – is a small setting, not large enough for an entire "adventure", for example:

  • a building (inn, tavern, residence, business, etc.)
  • a topographical site (barrow, cave, ruins, etc.)

often vague as to time and place, often without specific game statistics, and that usually does not have any plot attached, but can be "dropped" as needed into almost any larger setting. An adventure usually contains one or more sites.
