Abûth was a mysterious and ancient being, a spirit corrupted by Melkor during his first lonely wanderings on the physical plane. He was himself formless, appearing as a grayish, kraken- or mud-like pool, and seemed to have little personality - as the children of Eru understand it - on his own. However he was a powerful corruptor, forever changing and twisting every form of life which came into his reach... for Melkor had awoken a deep hatred and disdain for all forms of life, beauty and order of nature within this strange old creature.
