The Ûsakani (Mû."Natives") were a tribe of the Black Men of the Utter South who inhabited the savannahs and rainforests of Ûsakan, south of the Tûr Betark. Many were either farmers, Goat-herders or fishermen along the coasts and just like their close kinsmen the Mûmakani they were quite warlike and used the great Mûmakil as beasts of war and burden. The Ûsakani however were more settled and urban, accomplished traders and shipwrights who dominated the Bay of Ûsakan. The Ûsakani-commoners were largely ruled by a caste of mixed-blooded descendants of Black númenórean settlers from eastern Ûsakan, also known as Tantûrak.By the mid-third age a serious split had divided the people, the "true ûsakani" who were ruled by elected leaders from among the more traditional tribesmen of western Ûsakan and the Tantûraki, who envisioned themselves as heirs of númenórean traditions. Both ethnic groups however were, despite their internal strife, hard to distinguish from each other through the eyes of an outsider.
